SONG OF DEDICATION - Heralds of Hope 1981-1983             SATB + piano

Music: Dick Krommenhoek                                                English

Lyrics: Maude Tillsley

Vibeke and I were cadets of the 1981-1983 Heralds of Hope Session in the International Training College of The Salvation Army in London.

We thoroughly enjoyed our training in the ITC and we were greatly blessed and inspired by the teaching and preaching of our Training Principal, Colonel Bramwell Tillsley, who later became the General of The Salvation Army.

Our sessional name ´Heralds of Hope´ has set a mark on our lives and the beautiful Bible verses that speak about hope have become very precious to us. Just think of 1 Peter 1:3: Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. (NIV) Just amazing!

We all need hope, so badly. It is true when people say: Never take away someone's hope; it may be all they have.

God is the only source of hope that’ll never disappoint and when we place our faith in him, he provides joy, peace, and hope that overflows. At the same time God wants us to be ambassadors of that hope, by living and celebrating the truth and the reality of it. What a privilege!

The then Colonel Maude Tillsley we got to know as great woman of God who ministered to the cadets through her gentle, loving and caring nature. When commissioning time approached, Colonel Maude Tillsley wrote the lyrics for our Dedication Song and I was privileged to write the music.

It was a moving and profound spiritual experience when all 107 of us sang our Dedication Song on the 27th of May 1983 in The Royal Albert Hall in London.

I have never sent in the song for publication, but feel that after our more than 32 years of service it is about time to make the song available on this website.

Although the song is not difficult, it takes thorough rehearsing to get the harmony to work well. Quiet piano support is recommended.
